Deep Shred
Deep Shred is the name of this collective but also the name of our space to create. We exist as a collective of artists interested in collaborating together. A lot of our collaborations are live music events hosted in on our website/virtual show space. Our first shows were doing collecting donations online 100% for the bands but eventually worked towards using the platform we created to raise funds for threatened organizations. We aim to be fluid with our mediums as artists so we let many different vehicles home our concept. We also acted as a Cassette Label, a Variety TV Hour and also as show promotors at shows people could attend physically.
Deep shred mainly worked as virtual show space through a website that acts as a safe hub to experience various live music events from the comfort of wherever you are connected to the internet, broadcasting underground acts from a basement hidden in plain sight. The idea of a virtual show space was conceptualized by SIM student Nick Raygun to respond to a few different things. Due to interventions with local police, underground music scene in Boston, MA, has historically seen a lot of hiccups with keeping DIY spaces alive. Social Anxieties are also a prime factor in early conceptualizing. A lot of people deal with anxieties that can be triggered by being in large crowds in small places, loud & unprotected noises, and other things that occur at shows, in basements or venues. A night out with your friends in a hot crowded basement can be nightmarish to some. Showgoers that are can be needlessly aggressive also can ruin the entire night for other people attending a gig. Deep Shred aims to be a safer, virtual space that gives people the ability to experience shows on their own terms, at their own leisure.
